Today is our chance to explore the wonderful hill city of Bergamo, whose Città Alta or ‘Upper City’, surrounded by mighty Venetian walls, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site two years ago. Upper and Lower Cities are connected by a spectacular 120-year old funicular railway, whose cabins slide up and down affording fine views of the hilly urban landscape. This is a city stuffed with culture. Throughout the day, our guide will take us to see Renaissance churches, palazzi and piazzi, as well as museums such as the excellent collection in the Accademia Carrara Picture Gallery – Mantegna, Boticelli, Bellini, Raphael, take your choice.
We will have a break mid-day to explore the streets, shops & lovely restaurants. Keen walkers can take a stroll in the 4,700-hectare Hills Park on the slopes of the Upper City.
This evening we return to our hotel for some leisure time—we recommend starting the evening with a glass of Franciacorta on the terrace overlooking the vineyards. Tonight, we will dine together at our hotel’s La Filiale, Dana’s favorite pizza restaurant in Italy!
